The Informers by Bret Easton Ellis

For most of you who don't know, I'm a bookworm. So, whenever a movie comes out based on a book by my favorite author, Bret Easton Ellis, --think American Psycho and Rules of Attraction--I go see it. The Informers recently came out, and I really liked it, even though it left me overwhelmingly depressed. Despite the fact that I read the book about 4 years ago, it made a lot more sense than my interpretation of the book, which in short order, is about sex and drug use in L.A. in the 80s. How could that not entice you? Anyway, it's an excellent representation of the times, and I was inspired by the fashion in the movie. Lots of Wayfarers, crazy hair and skin-tight dresses.

Although I love Bret Easton Ellis and his true insanity, I don't suggest you go off reading his books or seeing his movies unless you're in the mood to feel disturbed =) Watch the trailer if you're interested.

So, I'm in Orlando for the summer

I just returned to my hometown, and the best part about it is that there's awesome outlet shopping here. I went to the Prime Outlets today, which I'm obsessed with, and they have an American Apparel. Even though it's still overpriced for t-shirts, I appreciate having it.

Anyway...I'm going to the Kentucky Derby this weekend (random, I know) and I needed a hat, so I bought this gray floppy hat from AA and I love it. It's only $40 and you can mold it different, cute ways. I'm going to deck it out with flowers and butterfly pins. You'll see pics when I return. Also, I'll be taking candid shots of all the crazies at the Derby, which should be quite entertaining!

If anyone is coming to Orlando this summer, holla at me! I'll probably be reading fantasy novels under an umbrella in my backyard if you want to join me =) Oh, and hang out with Flavia if you're in Gainesville because she's lonely without me! miss her.

You Can't Spell "Cute" without "Cut":

I just got a new coif, do you like it?
I love having short hair! I cut it short about a year ago and I can't seem to get over it.

It's interesting how bold haircuts are becoming so popular. Have you guys seen Allice Dellal, the supermodel with half of her head shaved, and the other half with long, flowing blonde locks? Very interesting. Short or long, you can have a style that's all your own with a unique cut.

I wanted to do some innocent marketing for the amazing girl who styles both mine and Leah's hair. Her name is Ashley. She is soo cute and incredibly talented. If you're on the search for a fantastic stylist here in Gainesville, take it from both Leah and I, GO TO ASHLEY! I would pretty much trust her with my life. I don't know what kind of mystical powers she has, but she will create the perfect haircut for you that somehow, no one else on earth has. My dinky camera doesn't do her cut justice. You need to experience it for yourself. Find her over at Elan Hair salon on Main Street: 352-378-0072
I'm talking dream-haircut, here.

Love,
Flavia

P.S.- Leah just got her hair cut too, with cute short and choppy little bangs. Gosh, I miss her!

These are finally mine:

The Jeffrey Campbell Lattice Heels are finally mine to love and to hold. I've been swooning over these for so long, and to my surprise they got them in at Urban Threads in a 7. I practically did a nose-dive for them. I'm really intrigued by all of the different trends that this shoe manages to incorporate with such grace. They are the perfect architectural-ankle-bootie-sandals. They are a little bit off...but that is what I find charming about them. I already wore them out tonight with a high-waisted skirt and a leotard. I'm looking forward to mixing them with both laid-back and dressed up stylings. What do you guys think of these?

With Love,
Flavia

P.S.- Please excuse my manic posting. Leah skipped town recently, so blogging is my means of coping. I love you, L!

I don't care what anyone says. I love Twilight

The Tonnish Touch in the Alligator!

So, Karina Galvez wrote an article for today's Alligator, the largest student-run newspaper in the country, featuring The Tonnish Touch! Go read it! We just wanted to say thanks to her and the rest of the Avenue. We hope it helps us gain some readership. Thanks to everyone who supports us. We love you guys.

I've been lusted over this jacket from the Balmain Spring 2009 RTW collection for so long, but then again, who hasn't? I don't have the $4100 for this piece, so I knew I would have to search high and low for a cheaper, more practical version of this look. I had been thinking of getting a plain vest or blazer and just putting the embroidery on myself, but then the other day at Target I ran into this beauty....

I'm in LOVE! I've been weary of the "bold shoulder" look since I naturally have huge man-shoulders, so when I saw this vest version of the Balmain jacket of my dreams, my heart skipped a beat. This vest was only $34.99! It seems a little pricey for Target but it's nothing compared to the cost of the original. Plus the vest has really great details like shiny buttons, thick embroidery and even a silk lining. It was worth every penny. It also has a neat assymetrical shape. I'm trying to plan outfits around it, but I really think I'm going to put it over all kinds of pieces, from skinnies to dresses. What do you guys think about my faux-Balmain find? Hopefully you're as tickled by it as I am.

Love,
Flavia

Scarf Necklace Tutorial

Hi! This is a video from Mademoiselle Robot. She's an amazing blogger and I got the idea for the scarf necklace from her. Remember when we posted about it? Here's a pic (that's me in my room) to restart your memory. Also, the blog she mentions is the one that I write for. I was given the permission to write about her for a post and it was great to be in contact with her. Watch the video and make scarf necklaces!

Pocket Closet Application

Hello all,

I thought this application for iPhone and iPod touch (and for sidekick I've heard) was amazing and figured you'd like to hear about it. It's called Pocket Closet, its only .99 cents, and it gives you the ability to have a categorized closet like Cher from Clueless..... yeah amazing. I've always been super jealous of that. So here's what it does:

  • take photos of your clothes and accessories and categorize by item
  • shake your iPhone to get randomized outfits (so cool)
  • use the built-in calender to date when you wore an outfit or clothing item
  • use calender to recall all dates you wore an item
  • email your friends ensembles you've designed from your wardrobe (this may be my favorite because I always want to ask Flavs what she thinks)
I think it's useful for shopping trips when you're trying to figure out whether you have something to match an item or something. Check it out! I can't wait to get it.

Happy Easter

Hope you guys had a nice weekend and are eating lots of candy.
Betsey Johnson makes the most beautiful dresses. These are from the Spring 08 RTW collection. Did any of you dress up for easter, just for the sake of dressing cute? I did <3

I want these in my life...

The Jeffrey Campbell Class Shoe (in Pink!!)

J. Campbell breaks my heart yet again. These beauties are not in my typical shoe repertoire, but I just feel like they'd go beautifully with flowy summer dresses and denim onesies.  Mostly, I see myself wearing them on adventures and when frolicking through botanical gardens. What do you guys think?

Love,
Flavia

The Maillot:

(I wish that this was mine)

Leah and I ha' beeeen done that "Maillot" trend.
Haha, actually yes we both really have always loved the vintage feel of classy one-pieces. I think you can actually look sexier in a cute one-piece than in a stank, way-too-teenie bikini. There are so many different styles to choose from in terms of one-pieces as well. There are ruffles, crazy prints, florals, cut-outs, straps, solids and tons more. I just think that this is a great look that is worth trying out. Here are the maillots that Leah and I have most recently purchased:

In case you were wondering, Urban Outfitters, Insight, and Betsey Johnson have a great selection. Hit up Urban Thread (of course) for some cute suits if you are here in Gainesville. Have any of you readers tried out this look yet? Let us know what you think!

With Love,
Flavia

Don't hate me!

So like Flavs said, we've been neglecting TTT hardcore. I feel incredibly guilty. I have my reasons and so does she, but I'm sure no one really cares about how busy our little lives are. BUT in my own defensive, I've become a daily blogger for another blog (serious betrayal, I know). So if you're interested in what I have to say on a daily basis, comment with your email and I'll send you the link. I truly am sorry for being such a bad blogger!

First of all, I want to dress like this every single day of my life:
And I could if I purchased something from Wendy Mullin, designer of Built by Wendy

Secondly, I want my hair to be adorned with one of these beauties. I haven't shown Flavia this, so her head is going to shit her pants when she sees it. Oh, and it's by I Love Factory, a Brooklyn-based design duo.

yeah, that thing goes on your head!

Love you guys!

xx, Leah
